If you are just starting out on your home schooling journey, you are particularly worried about what home school materials you will use. You want to make this home school experience to be the best possible. With the right home school materials you are well on your way to success.

One of the first decisions to make is whether you want your materials to be computerized or print based. If you have a computer in your home, your child will more than likely be more expert in using it than you are. Most children and older ones as well enjoy working on a computer. Therefore, computer orientated students thrive in type environment.

Computer based home school materials are best for children sixth grade and up. Younger children can use the compute for some of their work but cannot possibly be expected to stay on a computer all day long. That would make home school tediously boring, You have to keep your child’s interest if you are going to make the experience viable in the long run.

Older children tend to thrive on the computer based curriculum. They can work at their own pace with smarter students working quickly and slower students working less quickly. Older children, especially high school students, are more disciplined and like the idea of instant feedback that computer based materials give them.

Younger students tend to work better when they have plenty of one-on-one time with their home school teacher, mom. Particularly pre-school children love the home school ‘mommy’ time. When you are just starting your home school with a young child, you must find home school materials that are fun and entertaining. You can even use the child’s own books or books checked out from the public library for story time. Before you know it, your child will be reading the books to you.

When you find the right home school materials, you are way ahead of the game. You are well on your way to success. If you buy the wrong home school materials, you will probably have to use them for at least a year until your child has finished that grade. Then you can research again and choose home school materials that are more appropriate for your children. The right fit makes all of the difference.
